Avoiding Scams that Target Repticon Vendors

Repticon vendors sometimes report receiving either calls or emails by individuals falsely claiming to represent Repticon in some official capacity.   Please review the following points to help guard against any potential scams that may target you as a vendor.

  • If you suspect something is not right about any unsolicited contact you have received from someone claiming to be Repticon, please email [email protected] to have the Bookings staff confirm it for you.
  • You may forward any fraudulent contact information to Bookings.  Repticon will review these, but they are often difficult to track and stop.  The best defense for vendors is to be aware, to report them as spam, and block that sender or caller.
  • The most frequent scammers are attempting to sell vendor lists to certain Repticon shows.  Know that basic vendor lists are always publicly available online.  Others misrepresent themselves as an “official” hotel of Repticon in an attempt to get vendors to book.  Repticon does not arrange any official hotels for any shows at this time, and such hotel bookings may not be legitimate.
  • Your vendor name and booked table numbers are publicly available in the online layout, so any scammer may have this information when contacting you.
  • If you receive a suspicious call or voicemail, know that in most cases, Bookings contacts vendors first through email about any issues so there is a written record.  Generally if you receive a call from Bookings or Repticon staff, you will have previously received an email about that issue.  Common exceptions to this would be regarding any timely last minute situations that occur during show weekends.  In those cases on-site show staff might need to call vendors immediately.
  • All vendor bookings go through the Repticon Booking system.  In most cases manual bookings by Repticon staff are done at the vendor’s request and not usually solicited.  Usually self-booking is recommended by Repticon staff.  Manual bookings, once completed by Repticon staff, should include a system invoice link that is emailed to the vendor, and the vendor’s name will appear on the public layout.
  • Any payments by vendors to Repticon are made in all situations through the Repticon booking system.
  • No Repticon staff will ever ask for, or even accept if offered, card numbers or payment information over the phone, by text, or by email.  Payments via the booking system are only handled by vendors themselves.  The only time any Repticon staff might work with a vendor’s card information is in person at a show and in the presence of the vendor.

Please contact Bookings via email if you have any questions.
